FULL STEAM AHEAD! ISLE OF WIGHT STEAM RAILWAY TO RE-OPEN IN JULY

Published at:

Visitors will be welcomed back to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway from Sunday 12th July 2020, it has been announced.

After one of the longest breaks to the operating timetable in almost 50 years, the railway’s much-loved steam locomotives are making a welcome return to the Island’s picturesque heritage railway.

Trains will run non-stop for the full length of the line and the site also offers outdoor refreshment areas and its award-winning Train Story Discovery Centre.  The layout of the station at Havenstreet has been changed to allow people to move around more freely and extra provision has been made for additional cleaning throughout the day.

Steve Backhouse, General Manager at IWSR, says:

“There will be some changes to ensure everyone’s safety, but we’re confident that our visitors can enjoy a great day out. Our carriages offer separate compartments for travel along the entire track and our staff will be there on-hand to open and close the doors. So it will feel like first class for everyone.”

“We are fortunate to have a large outdoor site, which is perfect to explore and enjoy a picnic. I’d recommend checking our website before you visit and booking your tickets in advance. It will save you time and money.”

Training and engineering trains are already running on the line, so the members of public are reminded not to walk along the track and to take extra care when using crossings.

Full details of all changes to timetables and facilities can be found online at www.iwsteamrailway.co.uk, together with the online ticket booking.

As it stands, major events at the railway such as the Steam Show, Wizard Week and Santa Specials are still going ahead. More details about the 2020 special event programme, which is currently being finalised, can be found at https://iwsteamrailway.co.uk/events/.

Very good news. Welcome back. Just need Wightlink to put the Fast cats back on now. Island line are already running a full service stock permitting so hopefully pull back some lost trade.
