The Cowes Floating Bridge will be out of service for essential maintenance on Sunday morning (17th November), it has been announced.
Between 07:00 and 12 noon, the East Cowes to West Cowes crossing will not be running. This means that vehicles will have to divert 10 miles through Newport in either direction.
A passenger launch service will be in operation.
The Isle of Wight Council has not expanded on what the ‘essential maintenance’ is.
Will it be back working by 12 noon in this very long running saga!
Would have been cheaper to provide a fixed link as by the time the cost of this, and all the alterations to St Marys and Newport roundabout and lights etc are finished, it STILL wont reduce the amount of ever increasing traffic,
WHERAS a fixed link from Cowes to E Cowes would alleviate much pressure from the two roundabouts AND we could scuttle the floating bridge, or sell it to some dim third world country daft enough to buy ‘HMS Wight Elephant’.
£6 million give or take down the pan. I often wonder how much a lifting bridge would have cost… Too late now. The council will continue to throw good money after bad. That is, assuming there was ever any good money spent in the first place….
