Yesterday (Saturday) saw the first of 3 Island stages of the fundraiser 100Here-100There take place – The prelude to next week’s 100 mile round the Island cycle.
A swimathon, held at Gurnard Pines Leisure Club, saw 10 swimmers each complete 100 lengths of the 25 metre pool & raised money for Wessex Cancer Trust, Seeds for Change & The Firefighters Charity. All of the monies raised are staying on the Island.
The swimmers, made up of 6 Island firefighters, were swelled to 10 by the inclusion of elite Isle of Wight triathletes, Jack Grundy, Gary Kurth & Cohan Tyler. Up & coming West Wight Swimming Clubs starlet Grace Poynter, whose dad is a firefighter, also took part, finishing in front of many of the adults.
The pool was kindly donated free by Gurnard Pines Leisure Club for the Charity event.
Next weeks cycle takes place from Ryde Fire Station covering 100 miles of the Island’s roads, entry is still available or you can enter on the day. All information can be found at http://iow100.btck.co.uk/
