The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (IWFRS) is holding information sessions for anyone interested in becoming a retained firefighter, a vital role in providing fire cover across the Isle of Wight.
Information sessions are being held at Ryde Fire Station on Saturday 22nd March at 10:30 and on Tuesday 25th March from 18:30. Potential applicants are advised to attend one of the sessions where they will gain a valuable insight into the role of a retained firefighter, who work on a pager system to attend emergencies in and around their local community.
Retained firefighters are currently being sought across the Island, particularly in East Cowes, Ryde, Bembridge, Sandown, Ventnor and Yarmouth.
The service is looking for committed individuals who want to work as part of a dedicated and friendly team providing an important service to the local community. Applicants must be over 18 years of age, be physically fit and possess good communication skills and should have unaided vision and not be colour blind.
Your current employer, if employed, must sign a consent form allowing you to leave your workplace at any time for operational reasons, and you need to live and work close to your local fire station – generally within 5 minutes of the station. Although no formal qualifications are required, a good standard of literacy and numeracy will need to be demonstrated.
