The family of a man who fell down a small cliff and landed on the rocks below at Priory Bay near Seaview have thanked the emergency services for their efforts.
As first reported by Island Echo, rescue teams from across the country descended on a stretch of beach between Seagrove Bay and Priory Bay on Friday evening when a male in his 20s was found in an injured state by 2 local fishermen.
Coastguard Rescue 163 from Kent and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance were both scrambled to the scene to assist paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service in treating and conveying the casualty to specialist care at Southampton General Hospital.
It was feared that the young male had sustained serious internal injuries and is said to have looked very poorly.
The search operation saw Coastguard Officers from Bembridge, Ventnor and The Needles come together alongside Police and volunteers from Bembridge RNLI. It is estimated around 30-40 people were involved in the operation.
The large scale, multi-agency rescue has paid dividends as the young male casualty, Richard, is recovering well and has now been discharged from hospital to return to the Isle of Wight.
His mum Amanda has said:
“Thank you to all the rescue teams that helped my son.
“The good news is that he is ok with no broken bones or any other injuries”.
Richard (pictured above) is said to be sore and tired, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Great we have such emergency units available. Seems to be a spate of accidents recently. I guess more are out doing active things now lock down is over.
