Residents living in the rural village of Newchurch are set to experience less heavy traffic passing their doors as Island Roads are to introduce a 7.5 tonne weight restriction from 3rd November.
The experimental traffic order will initially run for a period of 18 months and will see any vehicles over 7.5 tonne in weight prohibited from travelling through Newchurch on Langbridge, The Shute, High Street and Winford Road.
Emergency services, waste collection lorries, highways maintenance, delivery lorries, tractors and Bartletts Service Station vehicles on recovery will still be able to pass through Newchurch.
The restrictions are being proposed to help ensure the safety of pedestrians and other road users and for preserving/improving the amenities of the area through which the road runs.
Island Roads are currently undertaking major repair works to the bridge at Langbridge, which has resulted in a 10-week closure of the road.
The Isle of Wight Council will review the traffic order in 6 months time to see if the provisions of this experimental order should be altered for a further 6 months or continued in force indefinitely.
