Car rental on the Isle of Wight is set to change with Enterprise Car Club launching at 2 locations across the Island, providing more flexible travel options for both residents and visitors needing a vehicle for as little as an hour.
There will initially be 4 vehicles based on the Island as part of the Club; 2 will be located at the Red Funnel Red Jet terminal in Cowes to be within easy reach of foot passengers arriving from Southampton and the other 2 will be based at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car branch in Newport.
Enterprise Car Club has selected low emission vehicles for the Island and will locate a medium-sized saloon and a small hatchback at both the Cowes and Newport locations.
Anyone with a credit or debit card and valid UK driving licence can apply for membership via the Enterprise Car Club website. Once the application has been approved the member can then use the website or app to find out where their nearest vehicle is located. And best of all, smartphone users can access vehicles instantly.
Vehicles cost as little as £4.95 per hour to rent, including petrol and insurance, and from £39.95 per day for members needing a vehicle for more than 8 hours.
Paul Smith, Enterprise Rent-A-Car General Manager for South Central England, said:
“The Isle of Wight is a tremendous opportunity for Enterprise Car Club. Our daily rental branch has been on the island since 2014 and has been really popular with both residents and visitors. Now, with the introduction of our Enterprise Car Club, we can offer an even quicker and more convenient service, available on demand 24/7/365.
“We are working closely with our customers and partners on the island to ensure that we are offering the vehicles in the right locations and may add further locations if the service proves as popular as we expect.”
David Thornton, CEO of Visit Isle of Wight, said:
“The right road transport is vital so visitors can make the most of the island and enjoy all it has to offer. Based on site at West Cowes, Enterprise Car Club is an invaluable travel option for visitors who don’t want to bring a car but need one to explore the island.
“Enterprise is offering customers tremendous flexibility and choice. It means travellers from all over the UK can come to Southampton by train, then jump on the ferry to Cowes knowing they can have immediate access to a vehicle when they arrive.”
Enterprise Car Club uses the latest website and mobile technology to deliver a convenient and user-friendly process for people to apply for membership and then book vehicles. A new driver qualification process also allows applicants to simply upload a ‘selfie’, a picture of their driving licence and to register their payment details to qualify for membership.
