Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Race Team rider Matt Allsopp headed over Southwick in Hampshire yesterday (Sunday) for the 53rd Perfs Pedal Race, the 2018 season opener.
Allsopp knew with 5 laps of the Portsdown Hill circuit – and a large amount of the field being Pro Elite riders – it wasn’t going to be an easy ride.
The first narrow climb caused the field to string out but Allsopp managed to hang on. Unfortunately, he only completed 2 laps before retiring from the race with an injury.
Not a great start to his season but he is aiming for some better results in the near future.
