20-year-old Jordan Jude has been jailed for 14 months and banned from driving for 3-and-half-years after his car careered off the road and landed on its roof more than 60ft down an embankment in Ventnor.
A search operation involving the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was launched by Police on 5th October last year when Jude’s vehicle left the road at Gills Cliff Road in Ventnor. The car, a Ford Fiesta S, was found in a damaged state and on its roof in amongst the trees.
The Isle of Wight Magistrates Court has heard how Jude, of Parkway, Apse Heath, failed to stop for Police on New Road in Brading after overtaking a Police car. A pursuit entailed but was soon called off due to Jude’s dangerous driving with speeds of up to 90mph achieved through the East Wight.
It was a short while later that the Fiesta was spotted heading through Wroxall towards Ventnor, but it wasn’t long until the 20-year-old lost control at the junction with Whitwell Road, veering towards a grass bank and taking off into the trees. Jordan fled the scene – leaving his passenger behind – but later handed himself in to Police.
Pleading guilty to the offences of dangerous driving, failing to stop for Police, failing to report an accident and driving without a licence or insurance, Jude was sentenced last Friday to 14 months in prison with a 3-and-a-half-year driving ban. Furthermore, Jude admitted aggravated vehicle taking of a Vauxhall Astra in a separate incident in April of this year, alongside driving whilst disqualified.
