
PICTURE GALLERY: Crowds congregated in Ryde to celebrate the country’s Armed Forces of the past, present and future yesterday (Saturday) under the glorious summer sun.
The Royal Marine Band from Portsmouth were special guests at the event which saw members of the Armed Forces march from Cornwall Slip to Superbowl before returning to Eastern Gardens – the centre of the day’s activities.
In one of his first official engagements the Island’s MP, Bob Seely attended in military uniform as he remains a serving Army Officer. Other dignitaries included the Leader of the Isle of Wight Council Dave Stewart, Council Chairman Lora Peacy-Wilcox and High Sheriff Ben Rouse.
Refreshments and entertainment were provided situated alongside a variety of recruitment and information stands. Ryde Inshore Rescue were also on hand giving sea safety information.
Armed Forces Day proper is to be celebrated on Saturday 24th June.
