Her Royal Highness Sophie, The Countess of Wessex carried out a number of engagements on the Isle of Wight yesterday (Wednesday).
The Countess visited Shanklin Chine to commemorate their 200th Anniversary and enjoyed viewing an art exhibition celebrating the Chine’s history, as well as viewing an exhibition about Pipeline Under The Ocean (PLUTO).
The Royal Party then travelled to Newport to visit the Earl Mountbatten Hospice in their 35th year and the adjoining John Cheverton Centre. This was an opportunity for The Countess to meet staff and volunteers and to also view the award-winning Chelsea Garden. A plaque was unveiled to celebrate the anniversary year.
To conclude the Royal visit, The Countess officially opened the new CECAMM Centre of Excellence for Composites Advances Manufacturing and Marine facility in East Cowes. The official opening married up with the first day of lessons for the Isle of Wight College’s students.
Later this month, on 28th September, The Earl of Wessex will attend the Maritime Careers Fair at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes. His Royal Highness is Patron of Royal Yacht Squadron Isle of Wight Foundation.
