An Isle of Wight Councillor has congratulated the team working on a major Island school construction site on their safety record to date.
Sir Robert McAlpine’s, a leading national construction firm, has contracts for the rebuilding of Carisbrooke College and Christ the King College in Newport, and for major construction at Ryde Academy. The team on the Christ the King site have been recognised by the company nationally for having clocked up 74,754 hours of working without a single reportable accident.
Councillor Chris Whitehouse, who represents the Newport West Ward says:
“Major construction projects are always dangerous, doubly so when they are on the site of an over-crowded and busy school like Christ the King. To have achieved this safety record rightly merited an internal company award to the team on the site.
“The Works Manager, Andy Pearson, gave me a fascinating insight into how a modern, state of the art, construction project is taken forward with a tour of the almost finished first phase of the new Christ the King College and I was pleased to have the opportunity to congratulate him on the award from the company nationally.
“From finger-print security access to the site, to rigorous monitoring of health and safety rules, it was clear that Andy and his team make site safety an absolute priority. Well done to them all!”.
