Councillors have rejected calls to waive charges for those using the temporary Floating Bridge service whilst the problems with the new £3.2million vessel are resolved.
The Cowes Floating Bridge is out of service until further notice due to continuing problems with the vessel. As a result of the situation, a foot passenger launch is operating reduced hours between East and West Cowes at a cost of £30,000 a month.
Last night (Thursday) the Conservative administration at County Hall were asked to consider waiving the charges for foot passengers during the period of the temporary service, but those calls were rejected as it would simply cost the Council too much money.
At yesterday’s Cabinet meeting it was revealed that the Floating Bridge No. 6 saga has cost the Isle of Wight Council in the region of £500,000.
