Bob Seely – the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for the Isle of Wight – has said that tomorrow’s General Election offers Islanders a clear choice between himself as an experienced, successful local campaigner or Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour candidate.
Cllr Seely has made these comments based on feedback received on the doorstep from Island residents.
Bob said:
“The majority of Islanders with whom we have spoken have said they will be voting Conservative in this week’s General Election, in support of me and Theresa May’s leadership. I am very grateful for that support, and pledge to do my best if elected.
“It also appears that voters who previously backed UKIP (who came second last time) are returning to the Conservatives to deliver Brexit.
“Where we have not received support it is clear that Labour are being chosen as the alternative.
“In addition, I have also come across quite a few people who – despite being Labour stalwarts – cannot bring themselves to vote Labour this time due to the extremism of Jeremy Corbyn and his team. This is not a reflection on the Labour candidate on the Island, who has campaigned honestly.
“Many residents have told me of their concerns about the prospect of Jeremy Corbyn leading our country, given his track record of siding with terrorists and threatening our country’s security. They are also concerned about his proposals for a land value tax which would penalise Islanders for having a garden.
Article continues below this advertisement “But we should be in no doubt. Some local people do support Labour’s high tax, high spend plans, and that is why I am urging everyone who wants a Conservative Government – to provide the best leadership for our country – to turn out and vote on Thursday.
“The next government will be led by either Theresa May and the Conservatives, or a coalition of chaos led by Jeremy Corbyn.
“I will be a strong voice for the Island at the heart of that government. I am ready to serve all Islanders as their next MP.”
Today the bookmakers Ladbrokes have slashed the odds of the Isle of Wight gaining a Green MP to just 8/1, although Bob Seely remains favourite at 1/20.
