12-year-old Charlie Adkins won the Novice dressage class at The Island Riding Centre on Sunday.

Charlie, who was riding his pony Roseberry Sir Henry, impressed the judge on the day to achieve a high score of over 71%. This was enough to secure the class win against a number of adult competitors.

The Christ the King College student has only been riding his pony for the past 10 months and has been competing in Novice tests for just 6 months.

The weekend win was a great step up for Charlie, of which he is very proud. He is continually working very hard to improve his scores at this higher level.

In a couple of weeks time, Charlie is competing at Addington, Buckingham in the NPS Dressage Championships where he hopes to do well having qualified for the last 3 years – but this will be the first time on Roseberry Sir Henry.

The Isle of Wight youngster is aiming to be like his idol Carl Hester, the Olympic Medallist who was also from an Island – the Island of Sark.
