CCTV footage has been released showing the moment a brazen man cut through a security lock and stole a bicycle worth £2,000 outside a shop in Bembridge yesterday (Thursday).
The thief struck in broad daylight outside Island Fine Arts on Dennett Road at around 16:40. It is thought the incident was a targeted theft, with the thief arriving armed with what appears to be bolt cutters.
In the footage a man can be seen walking up Dennett Road off the High Street before becoming spooked by a cyclist and a car. He then turns, reveals something from under his jacket and proceeds to cut through a security chain. He then rides away on the bicycle but not before exchanging a glance with the bike’s stunned owner.
The stolen bicycle – which belongs to Island Fine Arts – is a new Specialised tarmac competition bike, black in colour with a carbon fibre frame. It has Fulcrum wheels and a serial number beginning WSBC6.
The incident has been reported to Police, who have advised the victim to keep an eye out for the bike being sold online.
