Southern Vectis is urging local people and visitors to leave their cars at home and use sustainable transport instead in a bid to reduce harmful emissions.
The Government published its draft UK Air Quality plan yesterday (Friday), to which the Isle of Wight bus operator says it is welcoming any initiative designed to reduce the harmful effects exhaust emissions have on the environment.
Southern Vectis’ managing director, Andrew Wickham says:
“We are interested to read proposals put forward in the Government’s draft Air Quality plan.
“Over recent years we have invested heavily in newer, more efficient, buses. We also work hard to enhance the ways in which our buses are driven – through intensive coaching – helping us identify further areas of improvement in terms of exhaust emissions.
“Buses provide the perfect and affordable solution to reducing air pollution, and we’re committed to making sustainable transport an attractive option here on the island. We also feel Southern Vectis offers great value-for-money for those who travel with us”.
Speaking about the pricing of Southern Vectis buses, Andrew adds:
“It may interest people to know that our 24 hour Rover tickets have been frozen at £10 since 2007, we have not increased the cost of our Freedom 7 ticket from £24 since 2012, and our five day ticket has been priced at just £25 since 2013.

Providing a viable alternative for those who may otherwise use their cars is key to helping reduce harmful emissions, and improving the local environment for people living and working in the area.”
