A husband and wife from Brighstone have escaped being sent to prison after breaking into a pharmacy in Niton and causing more than £1,500 in damage.
David and Rebecca Conlon of Wilberforce Road, Brighstone were arrested during the early hours of 23rd November 2017 after smashing their way into Niton pharmacy. The couple fled the scene and were later found in East Cowes when, in the process of being arrested, Mr Conlon caused a Police officer to sustain an injury to his hand.
The duo both admitted burglary (other than dwelling – theft) when they appeared before the Isle of Wight Crown Court earlier this month. Mr Conlon also admitted assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty and using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
Drugs have been blamed for the pair’s destructive offending, for which David received 17 months in prison – suspended for 2 years. Rebecca was sentenced to just 6 months in prison, also suspended for 2 years when the pair appeared before the Crown Court last week.
Day Lewis Pharmacy in Niton is to receive just £250 in compensation.
