VIDEO AND PHOTOS: Crowds lined the streets of Ryde yesterday (Saturday) to watch a spectacular coming
together of the Island community in celebration of the second annual Isle of Wight Day.
Bunting, music and smiles were aplenty as The Big Parade set off from Dover Street before working its way through the town and along to the Esplanade to Simeon Street recreation ground. It’s at Simeon Street that an afternoon and evening of entertainment was held including a firework display at 19:30.
Marching bands, community groups, schools, charities and even local haulers all took part in the parade alongside carnival queen floats. Dignitaries such as the Island’s High Sheriff Ben Rouse and his predecessor Robin Courage took to the top of an Open Top Bus, following on from Ryde’s Town Crier who led the way.
