APRIL FOOLS: Armed Police have been notified about the sighting of what appears to be a big cat prowling around Firestone Copse near Wootton this morning (Saturday 1st April).
It is understood a couple were walking their dog in the forest earlier this morning when they noticed the potentially deadly animal crossing the footpath up ahead.
Fearing for their safety, the couple dashed in the opposite direction but managed to capture a blurred photo in the process.
PC Dick Black of the Island’s armed response team has said:
“Authorities were informed of the sighting by a member of the public earlier today. However at this stage there is no information to suggest any immediate danger to locals or livestock.
“We are maintaining a presence in the area and ask that if anyone spots the animal – or maybe even a large stuffed teddy – that they contact us immediately”.
Local campaign group Freedom of our Land (FOOL) say they are concerned that the sighting will put off weekend visitors to the area.
