An 18-year-old teenager from Bembridge died following a cardiac arrest just days after overdosing on heroin, an inquest has this week heard.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was called into action on 13th August last year when 18-year-old William Gear-Bayliss was found unconscious at his home on Dennett Road, Bembridge.
Firefighters from nearby Sandown were called in to help move Mr Gear-Bayliss before he was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital. Sadly, despite the best efforts of medics from both sides of the Solent, the teen died from multiple organ failure a short while later.
An inquest has this week heard how William had overdosed on heroin just days before his death after getting drunk with friends. He was treated at St Mary’s Hospital and discharged.
Although the cause of the cardiac arrest on 13th August could not be confirmed in the post mortem examination, it is strongly believed to be a result of the previous overdose and possibly further use of an amphetamine.
Coroner for the Isle of Wight, Caroline Sumeray, recorded a drug-related death.
