BikeSafe, Hampshire Constabulary’s rider safety initiative, has been opened up to motorcycle riders across the Island with an event due to be held on Sunday 12th May.
The all day event, which costs just £50, includes classroom input, First Aid training plus a unique ride out with the Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit’s motorcycle.
In Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, statistics show that 65% of all motorcycle collisions happen at or near a junction and that 35% of them show that other vehicle drivers failed to appreciate or assess the path of the Motorcyclist on the main road.
Rather than laying blame solely with other vehicle drivers, many of these collisions could have been avoided by riders using a simple plan to deal with hazards appropriately and by taking better responsibility for their own safety. These issues are covered during the BikeSafe course so motorcyclists can gain more confidence, improve their abilities and get more enjoyment from riding.
The workshop is open to full licence holders only with a minimum engine size of 125cc. A full tank of fuel is advised and both parts of your driving licence must be supplied.
