The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is failing to reach the most critical patients quick enough, with just 50% of Category A Red 1 calls reached within the set target time of 8 minutes during the month of July.
At an Isle of Wight NHS board meeting yesterday (Wednesday), figures were released showing how the Island’s ambulance service is failing to get to patients quick enough in the most serious of cases such as heart attacks and major trauma. Over the past 12 months it has been a reoccurring problem apart from in January and April of this year when the service beat the national target of 75%.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is also failing to meet the 95% target of reaching all Category 1 calls within 19 minutes – just 91.2% were reached within the set time frame.
It’s not just Red 1 calls that are not being reached quick enough… for less serious cases, but those that still need a prompt response such as strokes, less than 65% of Red 2 emergency calls were reached within the same 8 minute target.
