Shanklin Sandown Rowing club enjoyed further success at Itchen Junior Regatta last weekend with 7 wins and 5 runners-up spots.
The girls’ J13 coastal quad of Annabelle Steward, Poppy Lawrence, Evie Crew, Izzy Bounds and Esme Walters overcame 1st race nerves to take the club’s 1st win of the day; the J14 girls’ crew of Immy Burfitt, Ella Haydon, Freya Jones, Layla Katirewa and Walters followed up their victory at the South Coast last weekend with another convincing win.
The mixed crew of Adam Farley, Layla Katirewa, Carter Horrix and Louis Sheasby managed a comfortable victory in the boys’ J14 event; the girls’ J16 crew of Alannah Denness, Layla Katirewa, Beth Katirewa and Esme Walters – in their last race together at this age category – won by 3 lengths, with both crews racing in river quads for the 1st time.
There were wins in the J14 and J15 singles for Carter Horrix, with Louis Sheasby runner-up on both occasions. Beth Katirewa won her 1st sculling event: the girls’ J15 sculls race.
Ella Haydon and Layla Katirewa also competed in the double for the 1st time, securing an excellent runner-up spot in the J14 event, a great achievement as they were competing in a coastal double against crews racing in the finer river double.
