5 candidates have put their names forward for next month’s by-election for the local council seat of Central Wight.

Back in May of this year Bob Seely was once again elected councillor for Central Wight, but just a month later he was elected MP for the Isle of Wight. Despite initially saying he could carry out both roles, Mr Seely decided to stand down as a local Councillor to focus on his work as the Island’s MP.

Now, candidates from the 5 major parties are battling it out to take the ward on 25th January.

The candidates are:

• Terry Brennan – UKIP
• Steve Hastings – Conservative
• Simon Haytack – Labour
• Daniel James – Green Party
• Nick Stuart – Liberal Demoncrat

The only candidates who live in the area they are standing for is Steve Hastings and Nick Stuart, who both live in Brighstone.

Poll Cards should be delivered to all registered electors in the ward by 2nd January 2018. The last date to register as an elector and be able to vote in these elections is Tuesday 9th January 2018. For more information, please click here.
