Nearly 45% of people aged 16 and over on the Isle of Wight are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19 having received 2 doses of the vaccine, with 73.3% having had their first dose.
Latest figures show that in the week to 9th May, 10,400 COVID-19 vaccines were given out across the Isle of Wight, while 148,245 doses have been handed out in total since 8th December.
Data recorded by the National Immunisation Management Service (NIMS) shows that 92,211 Islanders have had their first dose of the vaccine – which is 73.3% of Islanders over the age of 16. Some 56,034 people have had their second jab, which is 60% of those who have received their first dose.
According to the Isle of Wight’s NHS Trust, 2,517 second vaccines have been administered to staff, fully protecting 97% of its staff and 98% of its BAME workforce.
People aged 38 and 39 can now book in for a vaccination – just 12 days after Islanders aged over 40 were being called.
It is being advised by health officials that teenagers and those in their 20s and 30s should receive the Pfizer BioNTech or Moderna jabs as these are said to be ‘safer’ than the Oxford vaccine due to extremely rare blood clots.
Those in their late 30s will receive a text shortly inviting them to make an appointment, with a second jab appointment to follow up to 12 weeks later.

No, but we’re “safer”. All we need to do is keep the R number below 1 and we’re in a good place. It’s accepted that this is never going away. I expect medically vulnerable people will need to shield again in the winter. Question is, how did the Indian variant get here? Or the UK one get to the US? Because greed prevents air travel from being fully stopped.
This is excellent news. What I don’t understand is that all the covidiots were telling us that lock down was here to say yet they are removing the restrictions as they said they would. Almost like the covidiots were wrong…………. 😀
