A superb team effort last Tuesday resulted in 4 of the Wightlink-Wight Mountain riders finishing in the top 10 in the 2nd Round of the Southdown Velo Series at Goodwood.
After a steady start in the E/1/2 race, Joe Staunton got in a break with 2 other riders and managed to stay away for several laps before the bunch got organised and began to chase them down. The stronger riders pulled away and with the pace proving to be a bit too hot, Joe dropped back to the peloton.
Kev Chant jumped on the wheel of another rider who then put in an attack, and they managed to bridge the gap to the leaders with 4 laps to go. Kev showed his class in the final lap and powered home winning the sprint to the line, taking a well-earned first place.
Matt Allsopp and Stuart Waite finished strong in the bunch sprint, taking 8th and 9th place with Joe Staunton close behind.
In the 3rd Cat race, Jerry Cooper, Charlie Orchard, and James Veal worked well together. James, who was active in several breaks, was the best placed on the night sprinting home to take 7th place with Charlie and Jerry finishing in the bunch.
