36-year-old Christopher Richards has been remanded in custody over the theft of a gold ring from a jewellers in Ryde on Saturday.
Police descended on the town centre after a man entered Island Jewellers on the High Street and made off with a gold ring worth £1,000, as first reported by Island Echo.
Richards, of no fixed adobe, was arrested outside the nearby All Saints’ Church and the ring was recovered.
Having been charged with theft, Richards appeared before the Isle of Wight Maigstrates Court earlier this week. He did not enter a plea and has been remanded in custody to appear before the court again on Tuesday (17th October).
