The 3 Isle of Wight Ladies’ teams have continued their great start to the season with wins for Shanklin Ladies and Wight Eagles and a draw for Cowes Ladies.
Remarkably, all Island sides remain unbeaten in the Hampshire League
Winchester Flyers 3-9 Shanklin Ladies
In Division 1, reigning champions Shanklin trounced their mainland opponents with 4 goals from Gemma Woodford, a brace from Thea Broadfield, and a goal apiece from Ceri Kilcullen, Mia Richardson and Sienna Brennen. The win for the Seasiders leaves them in 4th-place with 6 points from 2 games – 3 points behind leaders Eastleigh but with a game in hand.
Bursledon Ladies Reserves 2-2 Cowes Sports Ladies
Cowes Sports Ladies now top Division 3 after drawing away to Bursledon Reserves thanks to a strike by Holly Mariner and an own goal.
After the game, manager Laurence Chick said:
“Going away with just 11 players and no goalkeeper against strong opposition was always going to be hard. The 2-2 final score didn’t do the game justice.
“We move top of the table and go unbeaten in three games. There’s been a massive improvement and change on last season.”
Wight Eagles Ladies 5-2 Eastleigh Development
In Division 3, Wight Eagles remain unbeaten after 3 games after an emphatic home win against Eastleigh Development. The scorers for the Eagles were Abi Joyce (X4) and Susan Cullen. Their victory leaves them 2nd in the table with 7 points from 3 games, 2 points behind leaders Millbrook.
