A 18-year-old man from Newport has been bailed by Police as part of an investigation into a suspected arson attack on a block of flats in Shanklin on Saturday morning.
As part of a probe into the large fire which forced the evacuation of 7 people, detectives arrested the teenager on suspicion of arson. He has since been bailed until 10th March, pending further enquiries.
As first reported by Island Echo, some 40 firefighters, 7 pumping appliances and 2 aerial ladder platforms tackled the fire at the junction of High Street and Victoria Avenue throughout the early hours of Saturday.
1 man was taken to St Mary’s Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
