14-year-old Joe Crockett from Freshwater has come 4th in the Junior Scootering Park Event at the World Skate Games in Buenos Aries, Argentina.
This was the first time Scootering had been included in the World Championships. The Junior event was for athletes Under 19 years old, so Joe was up against much older competitors.
Joe had a great Semi Final, qualifying 4th for the Final. Joe’s 1st run in the Final saw him in 3rd place but sadly the three Americans put in solid runs, scoring in the 90s for their 2nd runs, which meant Joe dropped back into 4th.
Joe said:
“From the generosity of everyone who supported me through Gofundme, Gnars and Freshwater Parish Council help, I have been given the opportunity of a lifetime to compete at the World Championships (World Skate Games 2022) of my favourite sport. Just getting to experience the culture and atmosphere of Buenos Aires alone has been fantastic.
“I wish things could’ve gone a little better for me in the final, but all 3 riders ahead of me deserved their podium places. Hopefully, other young sports men and women from the Island will get similar opportunities in the future.
“Scootsportgb selects riders for the GB team based on the National finals at Adrenaline Alley that are in December, which I will hopefully be competing in, and get selected for more international competitions.
“Thank you everyone. Thank you very very much.”
Joe’s Dad Steve has said:
“The World Skate Organisation are confident that scootering will be accepted alongside Skateboarding in the Paris Olympics 2024.
“Joe’s aim now is to continue to improve and gain selection into the GB team in the same year the World Skate Games are next happening in Italy in front of the Colosseum. A bit closer to home at least!”

Well done lad!! Good luck for future!
Well done, time for a world class concrete bowl park on the Isle Of Wight with talent like this, forget your green nonsense and focus on the real world iw council, support skateparks, support youth…
Good for him, obviously got the ability to be the best, to have done so well against much older competition is a real achivement, well done!
