EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: 28-year-old Rhys Davies from Ryde has been handed down a 14 month prison sentence for dangerous driving, failing to stop for Police and 7 other offences following an incident which saw a car dramatically crash on the dual carriageway whilst being pursued by Police last month.
As first reported by Island Echo, officers were involved in the pursuit of a vehicle on the streets of Newport during the evening of 4th May. A video captured by an Island Echo reader showed the action unfolding just minutes before the pursuing vehicle went the wrong way around a roundabout and then crashed into a barrier on Medina Way.
The vehicle, a blue Nissan Alerma, was seen driving dangerously earlier in the evening at Lane End, Bembridge. It’s here where Davies crashed into a parked car before making off and a 19-year-old friend stole alcohol from The Co-Operative store.
Appearing before the Isle of Wight Crown Court this week, Davies, of Bullen Road, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving; driving whilst disqualified; driving whilst over the legal drink drive limit; failing to stop following a road traffic collision; driving without insurance and 4 counts of shoplifting between March and May.
Davies, who has been on remand since the incident, has been banned from driving for 3 years as well as being put behind bars for 14 months.
