The Isle of Wight Zoo has today (Saturday) announced the sad death of Nahla, the lioness, following a short illness.
20-year-old Nahla – nicknamed Noodle – has recently been battling an aggressive form of cancer that affects the soft tissue.
A spokesperson for the Zoo has taken to Twitter to say:
“At 20 yrs (twice the lifespan of a wild lion) she lived a long life filled with love, ice cream, playfulness and admiration from all who met her. RIP Nahla ‘Noodle’”.
The news comes just a month after the passing of Zia, the lion.
Plans are afoot for 5 rescued tigers to be transferred to the Isle of Wight Zoo in the coming months, as previously reported by Island Echo.
