Published:

Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club was well represented at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships held at the Copper Box Arena on London’s Olympic Park last Friday.

Carter Horrix secured the bronze medal in the Year 7 boys race. This was a superb achievement in only his second national event in a large field of over 140.

Kayleigh Batchelor followed up her gold medal-winning performance at the British Championships by again securing the top spot on the podium in the Year 9 girls event.

Rachael Debenham finished in 5th place, her highest placed finish in an indoor competition, whilst there were top 10 finishes for Sophie Atkin, Lottie Tapsell and Riley Horrix in their respective events.

Beth Katirewa and Abi Swinscoe were competing for Shanklin for the first time and both finished inside the top 20, whilst Alannah Denness, Esme Walters, Owen Denness and Ethan Walters all produced personal best distances to mark another successful day for the club.

This weekend the club has 3 crews trialling for a spot on the Wessex team for the Junior inter-regional regatta in April.
