8th-placed Cowes Sports travel to Portsea Island to take on 2nd-from-bottom United Services Portsmouth in the only Wessex League fixture featuring an Isle of Wight team this afternoon (Saturday) weather and ferries permitting. The Yachtsmen are still in contention for a playoff place, lying 4 points behind 5th-placed Brockenhurst. Cowes Sports assistant manager Mark Woodhouse says of the game:
“All away games in this league are tough. US Pompey will be no different, and we expect a difficult game. We will go there to try to replicate the performance we had at Laverstock and move on from the disappointment of Fareham last week with a positive response tomorrow. “We look to give our supporters something to cheer after the amazing support we had last week, and we hope they turn out again for a short trip tomorrow. It’s a busy time of year and we are excited about what is left to come this season.”
In Isle of Wight football, West Wight have the chance to go top of Harwoods Division 1 by beating Bembridge at Camp Road, while league leaders Whitecroft & Barton Sports face Binstead at the Molehill in the Memorial Cup. In the other Memorial Cup quarter finals, Brading Town play Ventnor at Vicarage Lane, while Vectis take on Cowes Sports Reserves in a derby at Cowes Enterprise College. In Harwoods Division 2, leaders Osborne Coburg face Newport Reserves at Victoria Rec.
