Cowes Sports have reached the 2nd round of the Velocity League Cup by beating Whitchurch United 2-6 in North Hampshire this evening (30th August).
This is the 3rd cup competition in which the Isle of Wight’s sole Wessex Premier League representatives are involved, having already battled their way through to the next rounds of the Isuzu FA Vase and Servio Hampshire Senior Cup
The Yachtsmen were boosted by the return of new signing Connor Kelly.
Cowes took the lead in the 10th minute, when Kelly burst down the left, then had his cross flicked on by Eli Ahmed for George Colson to hammer it home at the far post (0-1).
The Yachtsmen added a second through Eli Ahmed, who poked in a Connor Kelly shot that was going wide (0-2).
The Jam Boys then got a goal back on the half hour mark through a deflected shot from Ash Neale (1-2).
Cowes restored their 2-goal advantage in the 35th minute through centre forward Jez Conway, who blasted in a powerful cross from Ryan Oatley (1-3).
5 minutes from the half time interval, Connor Kelly outpaced the Jam Boys’ defence to score a 4th for the visitors (1-4).
However, a minute before the half time break, Whitchurch’s Joe Redmond was upended in the Cowes penalty area, with the spot kick converted by Brett Denham (2-4).

Shortly after arriving on the field, George Carter-Knight saw his shot cannon off the crossbar.
In the 65th minute, Jordan Cook came off injured to be replaced by Harri Catania, and Caleb Neale came on for Connor Kelly.
In the 88th minute, an in-form George Carter-Knight added a 5th for the visitors (2-5).
