Cowes Sports have been given a plum draw in the 2nd round of the Servio Hampshire Senior Cup: they face Championship side Southampton at Westwood Park.
The fixture is to be played in the week commencing 11th September. The Southampton side the Yachtsmen are expected to face is thought likely to be drawn from the Championship side’s under-21 and under-18 squads.
Southampton have won the Senior Cup on 17 occasions; 1976 being the last time they lifted the trophy. Cowes Sports are the 2nd most successful side in the competition with 8 wins – the last occasion being in 1967.
The Yachtsmen reached the 2nd round by beating Wessex Premier Hythe & Dibden on penalties on Tuesday.
East Cowes Vics – who reached the 2nd round by beating Lymington Town on Wednesday evening – will face either Wessex Division 1 Whitchurch United or Wessex Premier Blackfield & Langley at Beatrice Avenue.
The Senior Cup is currently held by by Southern League Premier side Basingstoke Town.
