4 riders travelled over to Goodwood in West Sussex last week for the Cat 3 circuit race of the Southdown Velo.

James Veal set about trying to create an early break but with the bunch still fresh each attack was brought back.

At the halfway stage Russ Thomson put in a big effort and managed to get a gap, James then set about bridging across to him but again the bunch were alert to the move and closed it down.

Kev Foster’s plan was a smart one. Sitting in the bunch and letting other riders chase breaks down meant he stayed fresh but was a little bit too far back during the last lap to get into the points.

Jerry Cooper had a go at splitting the field with an attack but again the bunch were not going to let any of the Wightlink Wight Mountain riders getaway.

Russ set a plan to lead James into the finish but a slight mechanical meant the pair were a few places back from the ideal position but a good sprint from James managed to overtake some riders and finish in 11th position. The other 3 riders finishing comfortably in the bunch.

Team riders Matt Allsopp and Kev Chant visited Goodwood for the E12 race on 25th June.

The race started with a few riders immediately going off the front to form an early breakaway. 2 laps later, Allsopp and Chant worked well together to bridge across to create a group of 8 riders. That group would gradually keep extending the gap to the main bunch and would grow to over 2 minutes.

With 2 laps remaining one rider attacked and created a gap which Allsopp, who was still recovering from illness, worked hard to bring back in with a lap to go. Allsopp then led Chant out to a 2nd place finish, with Allsopp in 8th.
