A series of intimate gigs are being hosted on board Wightlink’s Fishbourne to Portsmouth route on the first Saturday of the ten-day festival (Saturday 28th February). And bringing the musical celebration to a close, the final set will be performed by Visit Isle of Wight’s Chief Executive David Thornton on Sunday 8th March.
On the Saturday, passengers will be able to enjoy entertainment from one of the best singer/songwriters on the Island, Sam Sheasby. Falling into the style of alternative country/soft rock, Sam will be on board between 12:00 and 14:00. Next to appear is Cornerstone Duo, part of the main Cornerstone band, who are guaranteed to encourage travellers to sing along between 14:00 and 16:00. Joining the local talent is London-based singer/songwriter Simon James, who also has Island connections and is himself making waves in the music scene. After appearing on the Island that weekend, he heads off on tour with former X Factor finalist Ray Quinn as his support act for a national tour. Passengers travelling between 16:00 and 18:00 will be able to catch Simon’s performance.
Now in its second year, Acoustic Isle is an initiative by the Island’s official tourism body, Visit Isle of Wight. Chief Executive David Thornton said:
“We’re delighted that Wightlink are on board with Acoustic Isle along with other DMO partners, and are helping to both open and close our event. The festival, featuring the best ‘unplugged’ local talent, offers visitors a great excuse for a perfect break to the beautiful, culture-rich Isle of Wight. But it’s also a chance for Islanders to enjoy some of the diverse range of music on offer right on their own doorstep, or even ferry route!”
Head of Marketing at Wightlink, Mark Persad, said:
“Being part of Island Life is really important to us, and we’re delighted to help Visit Isle of Wight to extend their many Island performances to those travelling on the Fishbourne to Portsmouth route. This latest series of gigs builds on the success of last year’s #wightlive performances when we received some fantastic feedback from our customers. It’s great to see Island talents celebrated in this way, and we’re sure passengers will equally enjoy the Acoustic Isle experience.”
