Wight Tri have held the 4th of their Summer Splash and Dash series events – the Yaverland Aquabike.
The sea was relatively calm for the 1 or 2 laps of a 250m Australian exit swim. Onto the bike to take in a choice of 1 or 2 loops of an undulating ride out to Bembridge, the riders had to negotiate the traffic lights as they headed out of Yaverland, but times were adjusted if they had to stop.
Several members had very close nominated times and all were under 1 minute. Taking the honour of the 1st nominated time was Mike Kimber, who finished the long course in 51:42, just 12 seconds outside his nominated time. 2nd was new member Ewan Cook, who completed the short course swim and bike and finished in 29:43 – 17secs inside his time. 3rd was Annette Hickman who completed the long swim/short bike routes in 37:34 – 26 secs better than her nomination.
Fastest on the long course was Chris Till in 38:24, with Roy Young fastest on the short course in 29:04.
The next and final event in the series is the Gurnard Aquathlon 2, which will be held on Friday 25th August at 18:30.
The short course is a BTF Swim/Bike/Run Event, open to non-members of Wight Tri.
