WEST WIGHT KEEP UP PRESSURE AGAINST W&B WITH 0-5 VICTORY OVER NORTHWOOD

West Wight continued their challenge for top spot in Harwoods Division 1 by putting 5 goals past Northwood St Johns at the Isle of Wight Community Club on Saturday (13th April). After a poor quality opening half-an-hour of football, West Wight’s Chris Elliott broke the deadlock by taking the ball into the penalty area before slotting past Bedding in the Northwood goal (0-1). Josh Daley then came close to scoring in a 1-on-1 encounter with Bedding but the Northwood keeper got the better of West Wight’s No 10. Elliott had a good opportunity to add to his tally but blasted thew ball over the crossbar. 4 minutes from the half time interval, a strike from Daley gave the West Wight side a 2-goal cushion (0-2). Northwood’s 1st clear scoring opportunity came in the 44th minute when Owen Stone sent the ball inches over the crossbar. Half time: Northwood SJ 0-2 West Wight

West Wight continued to dominate the game in the 2nd half with George Saunders adding a 3rd for West Wight on the hour mark by blasting the ball into the back of the net following a corner (0-3). 2 minutes later, Gareth Bricknell added a 4th for the West Wight side with a strike from the middle of the penalty area (0-4).

In the 75th minute, Bedding denied West Wight’s Elliott with a superb one-handed save. The final word in the game went to Bricknell, who bagged his brace with a magnificent 30-yard effort 10 minutes from the full time whistle. Full time: Northwood SJ 0-5 West Wight

Niton Community 5-2 Newport Reserves 3rd-placed Niton knocked 5 goals past 5th-placed Newport Reserves at Nine Acres. The Niton scorers were Brandon Tuckey, Billy Haylor. Brandon Thomas, Jared Cousins and Josh Edgerton on his debut. Seaview 2-1 Ryde Saints Goals from Brandon Smith and Neil Badham saw Seaview victorious for only the 3rd time this season against bottom club Ryde Saints.
