UPDATE: Tonight’s game (Wednesday) between Fleetlands and Newport has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
East Cowes Vics – who currently lie 16th in Wessex Division 1 – take on Ringwood Town at Beatrice Avenue this evening (Tuesday).
New Forest side Ringwood are 17th – 1 place below the East Cowes side.
Vics – who currently lie just 2 places and 4 points above Amesbury Town in the 3rd relegation spot – will be hoping to banish the spectre of relegation over their next 2 games, both of which are at home.
Last Saturday, the East Cowes side were due to face 2nd-placed Andover New Street in North Hampshire, but the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Vics manager Alex Smith says:
“Tonight is a really exciting opportunity for us. We’re taking each game as it comes and will worry about the league table at the end of the season.
“Ringwood are obviously in poor form, with 1 win in their last 16, but also beat us earlier in the season. We’ve got a strong squad available and will be looking for a convincing team performance.”
This Saturday, Vics welcome Division 1 leaders New Milton Town. Alex says:
“We certainly wouldn’t be favourites for the game on Saturday. As we speak, New Milton are top of the league and will be a very tough test.
“With that being said, our results at home against the league’s top sides have been positive overall, and we’ll fancy our chances of causing an upset.”
Kick off at Beatrice Avenue is at the later time of 20:00.
A full report – from a reporter actually present at the game – will appear in Island Echo on Wednesday morning.
Also in Wessex Division 1, tomorrow night (Wednesday), 3rd-placed Newport travel to Powder Monkey Park (near Gosport) to face Fleetlands.
Division 1 newcomers Fleetlands currently lie in 7th place in the Division 1 table, having won 11 of the 12 home games they have played in the season to date.
The Port ended a run of 2 successive defeats by beating Amesbury Town 5-0 at Smallbrook last Saturday.
A win could see the Port return to top spot – if other results go their way.
Top-of-the-table New Milton Town are without a game midweek. However, 2nd-placed Andover New Street have a comparatively easy fixture away to 3rd-from-bottom Amesbury Town on Tuesday evening.
