East Cowes Vics Development remain top of Hants Combi Division 1 after beating Bournemouth Poppies at Cowes Enterprise College on Saturday (14th October).
With just 54 seconds on the clock, good pressing of the Bournemouth defence by James Turner caused a defender to sell his pass short to his keeper and Jayden Yates latched onto it, won the 50/50 with the keeper and tucked the ball away to put Vics ahead (1-0).
This woke the Bournemouth players up and, for 15 minutes were the better team, passing the ball around well but with no end product, with their only effort on goal coming from Aryan Sirjani after 17 mins.
2 minutes later, it was nearly 2-0 after a Turner cross found Yates, whose shot was saved by the Bournemouth keeper, Ben Walton’s legs.
Bournemouth created a couple more chances through Sam Taylor, who saw his attempt go over the bar, and Jamal Hamadi who bent his free-kick around the post.
Vics doubled the score line after 31minutes when Yates returned the favour to Turner by crossing for the striker to tap in (2-0), and three minutes later it was 3-0 when the busy Yates slipped the ball through to Sam Kirby who rounded the keeper to slot home.
Half time: East Cowes Vics Development 3-0 Bournemouth Poppies
Just a minute had passed before Ollie Carey found Kirby in the area, and he took his time to bury the ball in the Bournemouth net (4-0).
To their credit, Bournemouth didn’t give up and created another couple of chances before the Vics added their 5th after 74mins when some good build up play ended with Dan Johnson and Jacob Jarvis doing a neat one-two on the edge of the area for Jarvis to slot home on his debut.
The score line could have been more if it hadn’t been for Walton in goa,l who pulled off some great saves from efforts by Johnson and Joe Calder in the last 10 minutes of the game.
