UPDATE: Both games – Andover Town v East Cowes Vics and Fleetlands v Newport IoW – have been called off due to frozen pitches.
East Cowes Vics manager Alex Smith will be looking for his 1st victory at Andover Town – who currently lie in 7th place in Wessex Division 1 – this evening (Tuesday).
The 3rd-from-bottom East Cowes-based side are currently on a dismal winless run of 20 games stretching back to August of last year. Their last game on 7th January was a home defeat to bottom club Fleet Spurs.
3 teams will be relegated from the Wessex League this season. 5 teams from the Wessex area have applied to join the league: Clanfield and Stockbridge from the Hampshire Premier League, Yateley United from the Thames Valley League, and Devizes Town and Trowbridge Town from the Wiltshire Premier League. Vics currently lie in the 3rd-from-bottom position, 7 points adrift of 17th-placed Whitchurch United.
Kick-off for Vics is at 19:30.
Promotion-chasing Port travel across the Solent to face 9th-placed Fleetlands at Powder Monkey Park on Wednesday evening.
The County Town club have been boosted by league leaders Andover New Street being held to a 2-2 draw by Ringwood Town on Saturday. If Newport beat Fleetlands and then Andover New Street on Saturday, they could go top of the table.
The Port currently lie in 4th place with games in hand on all the teams higher in the table. They are now on a run of 3 successive victories. Their last game saw them beat fellow promotion contenders Folland Sports 0-1.
Newport appear to be unable to stop winning away. Their 9 away games have seen them take 25 points from a possible 27 in the season to date, with 8 wins, 1 draw and not a single defeat.
Kick-off for the Port is at 19:45.
