Isle of Wight Division 2 champions Ventnor take on Wootton in the final of the Junior A Cup at Beatrice Avenue this evening (Thursday).
Ventnor have won the Junior A Cup 4 times in their history: in 1958, 1971, 2005 and 2010. Wootton have lifted the cup on 3 occasions: 1952, 1966 and 1972.
Ventnor manager Gary Gee says:
“The lads are confident and looking forward to Thursday’s game. We recently played Wootton in the league, and it was a close game, so I’m expecting the same. The lads have worked hard this season as our main objective was to get Ventnor back into Division 1 and the cup final is a bonus.”
Wootton manager Dan Partridge has said:
“We go in quite confidently, as we know we’re a good side and play some great football, and I have a fantastic bunch of lads, whom I trust and believe in. It will be very difficult, as Ventnor are a very good side and league champions, so we’ll need to be at our very best.
“It’s a one-off game, so we will give everything we have.”
On Saturday, Wootton were unable to put out a side for their Division 1 fixture against Ventnor at Watcombe Bottom.
Dan explained:
“We had a few injuries and lads away on holiday and work, plus our reserves finished 5 weeks ago and we just couldn’t get enough lads together.
“Hopefully, the injuries have subsided, and I can get as close to full strength as possible for the final.”
Kick-off at Beatrice Avenue is at 19:30.
