VENTNOR REACH 2ND CUP FINAL BY BEATING BINSTEAD AT WATCOMBE BOTTOM

Ventnor have reached their 2nd cup final of the season by beating Binstead by the best of 5 goals at Watcombe Bottom on Friday evening. All Ventnor’s goals came courtesy of the boot of Emerson Tattersall, who has now scored 27 in the season to date despite suffering a serious facial injury a few weeks ago. Tattersall opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a sublime lob from just outside the penalty area (1-0). 5 minutes later, Tattersall bagged his brace by taking the ball past Binstead keeper Austin (2-0). The Ventnor captain was unlucky not to have scored a 1st half hat trick when he saw a further strike bounce off the crossbar 3 minutes before the half time interval. Harri Taylor was a constant treat for the visitors, striking the ball over the crossbar in the 50th minute, then having a free kick fisted away by Russell 3 minutes later. In the 55th minute, James Garrett pulled a goal back for the visiting side from a corner (2-1). 6 minutes later, veteran Darren Powell rose above the Ventnor defence to head home from a further corner (2-2). Losing their 2-goal advantage galvanised the South Wight side into action, with Tattersall and Barsdell both blasting the ball over the crossbar. Rob Gee then had a close-range effort parried by Austin. 12 minutes from full time, Tattersall bagged his hat trick by sending the ball into the top left corner of the goal from the middle of the penalty area (3-2) to ensure Ventnor reached the Memorial Cup final.

“I was very pleased with first half; I think we started very well and controlled the game, had a good shape and played with high intensity. “Binstead started the 2nd half a lot better and deserved to get back into the game. But over 90minutes, we deserved the win. “It’s been a good season back in Division 1 for us, so let’s hope the boys get their rewards in this final.”

Ventnor will meet the winners of the 2nd Memorial Cup semi final – High Park or Binstead – who clash at Steyne Park on Thursday.

Vectis 0-2 W & B Sports Unbeaten Whitecroft & Barton Sports remain 5 points clear of West Wight at the top of Division 1 by beating 4th-placed Vectis at Cowes Enterprise College. Sam Cant opened the scoring for the league leaders in the 1st minute of the game before being red carded 4 minutes from full time. Matt Evans was the other scorer for W&B. Cowes Sports Reserves o-1 West Wight 2nd-placed West Wight maintained the pressure on W&B by winning at Westwood Park, with the only goal of the game coming from the Yachtsmen’s Salem Abouelela, who put the ball into his own net. Bembridge 4-0 High Park Bembridge beat High Park in the Steyne Park derby thanks to goals from Charlie Broadbent, Josh Field, Conor Plenty and Aaron Youngson. East Cowes Sports 2-1 Brading Town ECS have risen above the relegation places by seeing off Gold Cup semi-finalists Brading at the GKN Sports Ground with strikes from Callum Fryer and Shaun Gulliver.

Osborne Coburg have won Harwoods Division 2 by beating Sandown & Lake 0-4 at the Fairway Sports Complex, courtesy of a brace from Mark Taylor and further goals from Liam Reynolds and Harry Green.
