At around 01:30 on 1st January, a 57-year-old man got on the Route 3 bus at Spring Hill before he was hit on the head and knocked unconscious. He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital by paramedics, where he was treated for a bleed on the brain.

Officers investigating the assault say the suspect exited the bus via the rear emergency exit. It is believed he originally got on the bus near Boots, on the High Street.

The bus was busy at the time with partygoers and so officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident. In particular, Police would like to speak to 2 possible witnesses who were seen to be carrying guitar cases.

The incident came just a week after 57-year-old Nick Medlin was killed in Ventnor during the early hours of Christmas Day.
