Vectis Whites Under-8s won the SCI tournament at the weekend and were handed their trophy by England legend Stuart Pearce. The Whites topped their group, winning 6 games and losing 1. They then went on to beat West Wight 1 – 0 in the semi final, before overcoming Downside (who also won their group) in the final. The final was a tense affair. Downside were leading 1 – 0 with a minute to go, when Vectis equalised with a free kick. The game then went to a penalty shoot out, which Vectis Whites won 3 – 1 on penalties after 2 fine saves from the Vectis goalkeeper. After the tournament, Vectis manager Graeme Bast said:
“It was a superb weekend for the team and was great to see them win their 1st trophy in football. “Our 1st ever football match together was nearly 2 years ago when we lost 14-1. To then perform so well as a team in this well-run, competitive tournament, with great teams participating, is a great achievement for the lads.“
