Utilita, the Smart Pay As You Go (PAYG) energy company, will open a new Isle of Wight-based Energy Hub on Saturday (14th March) as part of its drive to have more face-to-face conversations with people about how to make their energy go further, while paying less.
With grand ambitions to impact all 67,000 homes on the Island, Utilita is on a mission to help each household save up to £163 – the equivalent to a 13% reduction on the average energy bill.
The new Utilita Energy Hub in Newport’s High Street (former Stead and Simpsons) will open its doors at 11:00 sharp on Saturday 14th March and will be the first of its kind on the Isle of Wight – it’s also the largest Utilita Energy Hub to open to far.
The hub will offer face-to-face customer service as well as energy efficiency advice and 2 dedicated community spaces that are open for the public to book and use from Monday to Saturday.
To give adults a chance to have that all-important conversation about their home energy, television’s record-breaking football freestyler Dan Magness will be at the Energy Hub opening to entertain the young ones, by demonstrating his tricks and tips, and will invite football fans to try out their skills in front of an audience. There will be signed copies of the Football Manager 2020 computer game up for grabs for those who take part.
Locally loved party-time singing duo Short ‘n Sweet will also be entertaining passers-by and Hub visitors as well as presenting the energy-saving posters competition prizes.
The Energy Hub will be officially opened by the Chair of the Newport Business Association, John McLaughlin.
The new Utilita Energy Hub has employed 5 locals to become Utilita Energy Experts, with plans to employ 2 more in the coming weeks. The hub will be open from Monday to Saturday, 09:00-17:30.
Utilita CEO, Bill Bullen comments on Utilita’s biggest Energy Hub launch to date:
“Today an alarming 25 percent of residents on the Isle of Wight are facing fuel poverty – a figure that spurred us on to open the latest Energy Hub here on the island. It’s clear that more support is needed, and we will work closely with local charities to reach those people.
“At Utilita we pride ourselves on our award-winning and free digital technology, which includes an in-home display and smartphone app, making energy usage more visual than ever before. By seeing in pounds and pence what we are spending on energy, we naturally are more mindful about wastage.”
Any local community groups interested in using the dedicated community space free-of-charge can book a session by emailing [email protected].

Few will attend anything they don’t ‘have’ to for risk of CV.
Also a smart meter will show costs, but most don’t want to be watching how much your daughter has cost buy an hour long shower etc.
Just a way of spying on people, and, when the masses sign up for such, then UP will go the price.
most people are intelligent enough to know when they want to use power – they do not need some meter telling them.
This is just the power companies way of getting rid of meter readers to save on costs.
They extol the virtues by talking about no more estimated bills – well it isn’t estimated if someone reads the meter is it.
How is this article published as ‘News’ when it is so blatantly an advertisement for an energy firm?
The rate shown is designed to be confusing when it has 2x daily rates!! It is also overall over £4.00 more expensive than my EDF tariff.
By all means fleece the simple folk but don’t do it with a righteous smile of fake benevolence.
Just another “non-shop” in the High St. Destined to be closed again within a year. These sort of businesses are never set up to do customers a favour. They are in business to make a few bucks and scarper. Trust me, I bet we won’t be seeing a 1 year birthday cake next March! But, hey ho, good luck to them. It’s better than seeing an empty shop.
