This Saturday (28th February), Ventnor Arts Club will be ringing to the riffs, rhythms and rhymes of the Mississippi delta played on beautifully seasoned vintage guitars and presented by a seasoned blues man.
Jim Mercer been part of the London blues scene for many years as an upright and electric bass player. An early break in his career came when he played with the Muddy Waters Blues Band when they were touring in England in the 1970’s. Since then he’s worked and recorded with a variety of blues musicians including Gordon Smith, Shakey Vick and Big Joe Louis and during the 1990’s he was a member of Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes.
Jim also backed various touring American musicians such as a Pinetop Perkins, Lazy Lester and Pee Wee Ellis.
Saturday will see Jim doing what he’s been concentrating recently; his solo career. He’ll be playing acoustic guitar and his set will include Ragtime and Chicago blues together with original material from his first album ‘Flash Charlie’s Saloon.’
The gig starts at 21:00 (doors 20:00) and tickets are available in advance from www.ventnorartsclub.com or at the club, on the night.
